Morning News Round-Up -- 10.13.08: Three Little (feral) Pigs Edition...

Michelle Durand at the Daily Journal gives us all an update on the garbage contract approval process. This process seems longer than the Presidential election -- but unbelievably, the Presidential election will actually be over sooner. San Carlos considers the new garbage company tonight and putting its share of the $65 million facility into the pot. ($65 million...yikes!)

...and trash continues tomorrow in Belmont. Belmont seems to be an interesting case. They went on a separate track than their joint powers authority brethren and bid their own trash contracts.

San Carlos officials are going to consider the Environmental Impact report for Devonshire Canyon and housing. Watch Dog predicts this will be another local battle to keep an eye on in San Carlos. November 10th the San Carlos Council will bring up the issue again...

Sue Lempert's column from the Daily Journal breaks down local Measures W and V (she discusses possible confusion and 'no' votes on both) and State Measures 7 and 10 (she looked at who was supporting and opposing both and is impressed with the opposition). She also talks about the merger of the local Community Foundation with neighbors south and would like a meeting north of Palo Alto. Wrapping up, she updates us all on Richard Hedges, who may run for San Mateo City Council.

The race for Menlo Park City Council is covered in this story from Dave Boyce at the Almanac. The fundraising edge goes to Kelly Fergusson -- the story breaks down where they all got their money.

Burlingame takes up its own 'green' action plan after being told its carbon footprint was too big...

John Horgan at the San Mateo County Times looks at the future of the Crestmoor High School site -- and he doesn't wrap it up without taking a shot at some San Mateo Union High School District past leaders for punting on this issue...

Two 18 year-olds escaped from the Log Cabin Juvenile Detention Facility in La Honda on Thursday night. They were found in Pescadero the next morning. They didn't get far...

Outside of San Mateo County: there is a fire on Angel Island -- in case anyone is crossing the Golden Gate Bridge today.

...and my favorite headline, perhaps ever, "Menacing pigs disappear from Hillsborough"...

The Mercury News takes a look at the race for the Ravenswood City School District.

You may notice that there are no stories from any Daily News publications except if they appear in other publications (like the Merc). That will be the case for a while until Watch Dog (or the Daily News folks) figure out how to link to stories...

An important witness for the prosecution in the Dr. William Ayres case has died. Dr. Hugh Ridlehuber had a patient whom he suspected was molested by Dr. Ayres. The delays in this case are getting ridiculous and the victims are angry:
