Morning News Round-Up -- 11.19.08: Semi-Anti-Democratic Supervisors?

Hey Supervisors, there is a bandwagon...now jump on. It is the anti-Prop. 8 bandwagon that many government agencies are jumping on to join the lawsuit. LA and Santa Clara Counties did it right after the election. Kudos San Mateo County for getting on board.

And while our County may have been a little late to the game, at we didn't make the decision to join the legal case before the election or in closed session...that's what Santa Clara County Supervisors did.

But our Supervisors shouldn't hurt themselves patting themselves on their backs for good government yet, because...

Jerry Hill will be heading to Sacramento leaving a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors. In a two-pronged, semi-anti-democratic move, the remaining Board of Supervisors will interview potential replacements. If the Board doesn't see someone they like, they'll call an election. If they see someone they like, that person (Carole Groome) will get appointed. This thing doesn't pass the smell test to the highly sensitive nose of Watch Dog... (note: there is a weird typo in this story that changes the meaning of the first paragraph...) The Daily Journal Editorial Board agrees with Watch Dog -- or the other way around...

A gang-related stabbing occurred on Monday night in San Mateo on West Hillside Blvd. If you know or saw anything, call the Secrety Witness Line at 522-7676.

Apparently people don't die in bad economic times...I'm kidding...but cemeteries are having a tough time. Skylawn Memorial Park may be sold soon.

The Burlingame Elementary School District may buy the former Hoover School on Summit Dr. to ease overcrowding.

Palo Alto and Menlo Park Police apprehended the robbery suspect they think has been robbing women over the past several weeks. I wonder if he fit the Palo Alto Police Chief's description...
