We all know about the San Mateo stalking/killing that happened around Thanksgiving. Raymond Gee shot and killed himself after he stalked and killed Loan Kim Nguyen. Now we learn that Gee may have also been the guy that terrorized a couple in Millbrae in October during a home invasion. There are a lot of similarities between the two crimes -- but officials aren't sure, according to the Chronicle's Matier & Ross.
In a different kind of horrible crime, a kitty was stomped to death in Redwood City to punish a 4 year old. The DA is charging Jesus Calderon-Franco with felony animal cruelty. Later, Mr. Calderon-Franco will be receiving a special place in hell.
You may remember the story about the Petaluma students that entrapped/tricked their teacher to solicit a teenager online and set up a fake meeting in San Mateo. Well, the teacher is delaying his plea. Scott Eugene Dietlin didn't end up on NBC, but is on this aptly named site: BadBadTeacher.com.
Sequoia Union High School District was most recently in the news opposing a Charter School application that came before its board and then again in front of the County Board of Education. Now, they are cutting $400,000 from their budget to restore reserves. See, fiscal accountability is possible in government. Perhaps the Governor and Legislature should take a lesson from Sequoia...
A new (rotating) Mayor was sworn in last night in Millbrae. Guess what? Budget challenges are on the top of Robert Gottschalk's to-do list.
Foster City Councilmember Art Kiesel makes the case for increased height for major projects moving forward -- including the Mirabella project and the Chess Office Building Complex. He also notes that Metro Center is 272 feet.
And here is a huge shock...the City of Palo Alto and Stanford disagree about how to mitigate Stanford's plans to expand the Stanford Medical Center and the Stanford Shopping Center. The question revolves around housing...but it really revolves around the bad relationship between Stanford and Palo Alto. This issue will certainly be continued...
If contractors want to do work with the City of Palo Alto, it is going to cost them a bit more. Palo Alto is considering a "prevailing wage" policy.
Menlo Park agreed to study the traffic on Willows, hopefully avoiding previously bad ideas that caused massive headaches (apparently) in the early '90s. Do any Watch Dogs out there have more details?
