Morning News Round-Up -- 3.20.09: Watch Dog Overslept Edition...

The County's investment pool got clobbered when Lehman Brothers tanked...after a review of the current investment pool, consultants say that there is nothing to worry about anymore...that's a relief and something that would have been helpful to know about last year...

Perhaps you should be sitting down when you read this...Jay Thorwaldson posted on his blog on the Palo Alto Weekly site. (Watch Dog has complained about this before...) He chimes in with a piece on high-speed rail. This brings Thorwaldson's total number of posts to 10 since 2006. 10 posts in nearly 3 years -- that's about 3 per year. Slow down Mr. Throwaldson, the blogosphere can't take it...

If you want to stay informed of all the goings on in the City of San Mateo in your neighborhood, the San Mateo United Homeowners Association wants you. (You should also probably read Watch Dog everyday.) The Daily Journal Editorial pages are also chiming in on neighborhood associations, encouraging everyone to join...

Holly Street, the quaintly named pain in the ass thoroughfare through San Carlos will be the topic of discussion tonight at the San Carlos City Council meeting. Should it be widened? What does that mean for the folks who live there? What does that mean for traffic at the key interchanges?

Supervisor Adrienne Tissier would like you to turn off your lights...at least for an (Earth) Hour.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors (at least some of them) seem to be on the receiving end of some City of Palo Alto lobbying against the Stanford development plans...Supervisor Liz Kniss is Palo Alto's biggest supporter in this battle and seems to be trying to derail Stanford's timeline for development. The full Board of Supervisors will hear the full issue on April 7th...

Speaking of Stanford development...the Stanford-owned Rosewood Sand Hill hotel will open on April 2nd...a bright economic light in a dark downturn...

A former Daly City City Clerk defends the current Daly City City Clerk in Pay-Cut Gate...thanks Riptide.

A gang-related shooting in Palo Alto (PALO ALTO!) earlier in the week has folks pretty freaked out...

Here's hoping you post some of those outrageous comments made by San Mateo juvenile judge Marta Diaz in an interview with the San Francisco legal paper, the Daily Journal.. calling a juvenile boy " that little bastard" for one... And letting loose a four letter word on record.
