A different robbery in Redwood City is in the news this morning too... a robber tried to rob a police officers' home -- and the police officer caught him. Dumb.

Ayres has been seen out and about by himself in recent weeks, looking perfectly competent. He's been seen hanging out at Trader Joe's in Millbrae by himself (without the walker he used in court) as well as other places.
Keep in mind that this case is not limited to only San Mateo.
