Atherton and Menlo Park are suing the California High Speed Rail Authority according to today's paper. Something about 200+ mile per hour trains running straight through Peninsular towns has worry-warts all agitated. (That was sarcasm...)
This is in advance of Prop. 1, which I think Watch Dog brought up a few days ago. Happy reading.

Atherton & Menlo Park sign on to the same lawsuit as environmental groups. Sadly, not for the same reason. Residents in these toney communities worry about a train - same excuse they give for not allowing BART to circle the Bay.
I hear the clinking of champagne glasses whilst these communities congratulate themselves for finding environmentalists opposed to the route. The problem is, of course, environmentalists support high speed rail and object to the route going through environmentally sensitive wetlands in Merced.
Imagine, San Francisico, or San Jose, to Los Angeles in under 3 hours without taking off your shoes to have the soles of your feet examined for explosives before boarding a plane.
