While researching what we will all be expected to vote for (or against) in November, I visited the San Mateo County Registrar's blog. Pretty cool stuff. I can't imagine many other Registrar's are as hip to technology as San Mateo's.
Anyway, in a post I found a piece that I hadn't heard about a measure that will be on the ballot in Redwood City. It is about open space and development. It doesn't seem that there are any real tax dollars at play, except that elections are expensive and this measure looks like there may be more elections in Redwood City's future.

Rspectfully, that's where you're wrong. this measure is not about open space, and it won't be named that on the ballot. It's purpose is the bypass the planning process in Redwood City and require special elections requiring all development and building projects on land designated open space and parks receive a 2/3 majority vote.
That sounds all well and good, except the designation is from the general plan, not zoning.
The plan designates certain properties and attractive for park expansion. those properties already have buildings on them, like homes. If passed, then the home owner who wants to add on to his house has to get permission from 2/3 of the electorate.
Currently more than 600 homes are affected, not the mention the San Mateo County women's jail. Docktown and several undeveloped plots of undeveloped land.
So, since each election costs a average of $50,000, guess how many tax dollars will have to be spent for all the special elections?
