The Governor dropped a bomb yesterday with his support for a short-term sales tax hike throughout the State. I love that it is being described as a one-cent sales tax increase -- that sounds so quaint. Until you buy something or somethings everyday for 365 days a year and everything costs you 1% more. Yikes.
Then the City of San Jose looked at their books and thought about raising new revenue through a complicated mix of things. Some things will go to the ballot and some things won't. This is in addition to a proposed sales tax increase in Santa Clara County (that includes you Palo Alto readers) for BART operations. (By the way -- it isn't that I know all these things off the top of my head -- it is all in one story in the Mercury News today...)
So what does this all mean? I fear that it means that horrible TV ads will start popping up all over the place very, very soon.
