Morning News Round Up -- 11/04/08: Long Line Edition...

The Palo Alto Police Chief apologized for the dumb/racist things she said last week. Remember, even after this apology, Watch Dog was the first to predict her demise this week...Stanford African-American student groups get in on the action. And in truly breaking news on this issue: it took (potentially/clearly) racist comments by the Police Chief to get Palo Alto Weekly Editor Jay Thorwaldson to blog again (7 posts/2 years)...

Welcome to San Mateo County. A fight breaks out over Prop. 8 in San Mateo. Not that neighborly...pretty nasty stuff actually. With the Palo Alto Police Chief's biggoted episode and this stuff, one may get the impressing that the area is full of wackos...

and this story doesn't help...

Candidate Rick Ciardella in Menlo Park (apparently) commits a variety of mistakes in his campaign mail -- no disclaimer about who paid for it, misusing stuff from the Almanac, and perhaps other screw ups. His campaign manager takes full responsibility...but why wouldn't the candidate take full responsibility? If he wins -- Watch Dog will be on him...

Parking and a public plaza (not a City Hall) are included in San Mateo's downtown plan.

Burlingame feels the budget crunch of unfunded capital projects, rising costs, falling revenues...etc...etc...etc...

Michelle Durant is "Off the Beat" again and can be summed up in the headline: Vote or Shut Up. Watch Dog voted by mail...so I don't have to shut up Michelle!

Can elected officials vote on things that affect campaign donors? Menlo Park officials discussed the issue of conflict of interest after voting on a union contract.
