Carlmont High School started a student newspaper a few weeks ago. As often happens with student newspapers, the Administration didn't like it and shut it down. The paper's Editor says it was shut down due to content -- the Administration says it was because there was no supervision or permanent adviser. If it is shut down because of content -- hold onto your hats because that is illegal. You may actually remember one of our local Legislators wrote a recent law to protect student newspapers. Watch Dog thanked him then and thank you again Senator Leland Yee!
You remember the murder in SSF in late October? One teenager will be charged as an adult in connection with the murder -- the other guy is 19. Both have been arrested. Daily Journal, County Times, Chronicle.
In other San Mateo murder trial news -- the retrial of Mohammed Monie started yesterday. For those of you will a long memory, this murder took place in 1989...and this is the second trial.
Michelle Durand's "Off the Beat" focuses on the meaning of Veterans' Day to her. Stirring.
The San Bruno Park School District Board and the District's PTA seem to be at odds over a potential parcel tax measure for the March 2009 ballot. There will be a meeting about the potential tax tomorrow at San Bruno Park School Distict offices.
One movie theater is better than two -- at least in Redwood City. One closed down and folks in Redwood City are really pleased.
In a long-standing battle between the City of Half Moon Bay and developer Chop Keenan -- the next chapter is that the HMB City Council needs to cough up $18 million to Keenan or give Keenan the permits to develop his land. In a severe understatement, the City's financial consultant said: "It's a lot of money for a city this size in a tough time."
The Palo Alto City Council officially condemned racial profiling. This issue will continue, obviously, for some time. For the first time though, someone actually defended Police Chief Johnson -- Supervising DA Jay Boyarski. Remember, Watch Dog said the Chief wouldn't make it long. I stand by that...
Gunshot-tracking system goes live in EPA.
