Morning News Round-Up -- 1.22.09: Will the San Mateo City Council restore democracy tonight?

The Daily Journal gives a blow-by-blow of yesterday's parade of potential candidates that came before the San Mateo City Council last night to make their case for appointment. The Council is making their decision tonight...Watch Dog is hoping for Karen Herrel to be appointed -- as she has promised not to run for election after the appointment. Meaning democracy and voters will actually have a say...

Facility and field use fees are going up in the San Mateo Union High School District on July 1. This issue pits community groups and sports leagues against a school district. The State's budget cuts may cost San Mateo County $100 million. This is like being kicked in the gut after being punched in the nose. Assemblymember Hill -- please help!

If first you don't succeed...try, try (try) again. That's what Everest Charter School did. First denied by Sequoia Union High School District...then denied by the County...then appealed to the State. The State is recommending approval. Let the battle start all over again...

Cliff erosion in Pacifica has some folks worried...like the people who actually live nearby...

A pedestrian was hit and killed in Redwood City last night. Be careful out there folks...

PP Examiner finally (after a few weeks off) posted an update today chiming in on the San Mateo Council seat and his Hairness' visit to San Mateo County...Thank you PP Examiner for not being a deadbeat blogger like Jay Thorwaldson...
