The biggest news today is clearly that Counties across California getting ready to deal with the budget package the Legislature figured out yesterday. From our own Assemblymember Jerry Hill: "There's something for everybody to hate in this budget..." Inspiring...The Daily Journal Editorial crew chimes in the budget too reminding folks about the "mother of all ballot measures" to deal with the budget in May (which will include Watch Dog's favorite, open primaries)...The budget talk is all ok with Palo Alto Superintendent Kevin Skelly because the deal (and education cuts) finally gave him something else to talk about besides his bone-headed remarks...)
And speaking of the budget a.k.a. garbage...
Burlingame became the first city in the County to oppose part of the new garbage package. If you don't remember (how could you forget?) the previous stories on this issue, here is a brief background...Burlingame is saying no to the $65 million recycling center on Shoreway Blvd. just off 101 in San Carlos. Burlingame Councilmember Jerry Deal called the facility a "glorified trash can" and a "Cadillac trash can." Deal makes a run at City Finance Director Jesus Nava for most colorful language when talking about trash -- remember this? Burlingame's decision could have far-reaching impacts. Stay tuned...
You might remember this story about two high school students luring a Petaluma teacher to San Mateo To Catch A Predator-style. The teacher will stand trial for a bunch of pretty serious felonies...
San Mateo-Foster City School District have a plan to deal with an ever-increasing student population: new school, satellite campus, new classrooms, etc. Previous coverage here.
There was a triple shooting with one fatality outside the Daly City BART Station last night at about 7 p.m. (No wise guy, it was not a BART Police Officer that actually did the shooting...)
