Morning News Round-Up -- 9.21.09: It's hot... damn hot...

Fall officially starts tomorrow, yet it's going to feel as hot as summer for everyone except for those who are visiting from Texas. Remember to hydrate!

And because of the heat (and your SUV) the air quality around the Bay is bad enough that officials are asking people to telecommute, carpool, and take transit as part of the “Spare the Air” day.

Here is one thing the state IS good at: Mandating local programs that it cannot fund. Thank you Sacramento...

Strangely enough some parents in the San Mateo-Foster City School District are “miffed” that the District is finger-printing volunteers who work on the school campus. Apparently, money outweighs safety. Really? Miffed?

San Mateo County is considering building its new jail on the motor pool lot near the Maguire Correctional Facility. Let the NIMBYism continue...

Cougars were spotted in Portola Valley… and it wasn’t at your local bar.

Volunteers around the state picked up more than 909,294 pounds of trash and recyclables this weekend. Thanks, y'all. All that trash and the SBWMA isn't even in the story...
