Morning News Round-Up -- 12.2.09: Mug-Shot Maggie...

This is the story of the day locally: The family that got killed over the holiday weekend were dishonored in their death by some scumbags that burgled their house. It is rare to have a story about an elected official with a mug shot attached to it... but those are the stories Watch Dog (and everyone else) loves. Maggie Gomez, a Daly City Councilwoman, pleaded not guilty of 12 counts of fraud. (It even got the Chronicle's attention... amazing.)

And if that isn't rare enough, it is even more rare when an elected official does not run for re-election and is not seeking some other office. But Larry Franzella, the Mayor of San Bruno did just that last night. He stepped aside after 10 years in office. So long Larry, we hardly knew ya'...

Menlo Park has reached an agreement with a key union. The 2 year deal was announced last night. Perhaps Palo Alto could take some lessons...

Jon Mays, the Editor of the Daily Journal, seemed to receive inspiration for his piece in today's paper from Jon Stewart... sort of. He wants us to keep our collective eyes on the important stories of the day, not Tiger Woods late-night driving habits...
