Technical difficulties yesterday. Plus, didn't everyone spend at least part of the day checking on their 401Ks?
Speaking of that...
Eshoo and Pelosi voted for the bailout/rescue on Monday...stay tuned for who will vote for what in the coming days.
Our friends at the Examiner, the San Mateo Dialy News, and the Daily Post are in quite a tiff. Here is a breakdown of media battling media -- Watch Dog must admit that this sounds an awful lot like a campaign: they stole my lawn signs! they stole my lawn signs!
The Sups passed their budget -- although the real decisions were made in June.
The Sups also approved a new contract with AMR for ambulance service. Let's just say that this wasn't a popular decision among some folks. Is there a large government contract in San Mateo County that does NOT end up in a controversial decision?
County Sups let the trash guys know that their recycling eyes may be bigger than the Supervisors' financial stomachs. Money quote: “You’ve got to get it smaller...” Thank you Supervisor Gordon.
CalTrain riders with bikes must wait their turn. This seems counter-mass transit, but you make up your own minds.
The Daily Journal reverses itself (sort of) on W and V. You have to read this to believe it...really...I hate to get political on everyone, but the first couple of paragraphs sounds like an answer Sarah Palin would give.

If we're going to talk about local politics, I've been doing some research of my own over at the Department of Elections, and I've learned a few interesting things about some candidates and their spotty voting records.
Every election, many new and veteran candidates seeking elective office make the difficult decision to stand before the public and ask for their votes.
It is interesting however that some of those very same candidates have difficulty getting to the polls themselves – sometimes for the very same offices for which they are running.
Below are some of the more colorful voting records of some candidates seeking a variety of local offices this November. The voting histories of all candidates are publicly available through the San Mateo County Office of Elections. All information contained here was obtained from the public record.
CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
City of Pacifica
Jeffrey Simons (Candidate)
Voted in 2 out of the past 8 elections for a rate of 25%
Failed to vote 06/03/08
Failed to vote 04/08/08 Special Congressional Election
Failed to vote 02/05/08 Presidential Primary
Failed to vote 05/08/07 Special School District Parcel Tax Election

DALY CITY CLERK
Teresa Proano (candidate)
Voted in 5 of the past 10 elections for a rate of 50%
Failed to vote 06/03/08
Failed to vote 04/08/08 Special Congressional Election
02/05/08 Presidential Primary
Failed to vote 11/06/07
11/07/06
06/06/06
11/08/05
11/02/04
Failed to Vote 03/02/04
Failed to vote 11/04/03
*Note: What is most interesting about the Daly City Clerk’s election is that the local office serves as the chief elections official for the City of Daly City, conducts the elections for all city offices including the city council, the city treasurer and the city clerk’s office itself. It goes without saying the chief elections officer of a city should actually show a semblance of interest in showing up to the polls on election day.
This is particularly true given the front page message on Teresa Proano’s campaign Web site (http://teresaproano.com/)
“I can think of no greater honor than serving my community as City Clerk and knowing it was the people’s votes that put me there.”
I checked your information. It seems it is all correct except for Proano. It seems she voted in 11/04/03.
Sorry for the delay.
